Bucket’s Knee
![]()
Poor Bucket had to have his second cruciate ligament replaced (in his back knee, think ACL). It seems like he blew it out sometime in late September, maybe at our wedding. We had to get him up at 5:30am, which he didn’t like, and drop him off at a new and unfamiliar vet office, where he stayed until about 6:30pm, when the folks at the vets office slung him out in a blanket, as he was still too drugged to walk.
We’ve had Bucket for almost six years now, and he’s never made a sound of pain. That is, until the night we brought him home. He cried non-stop. The only thing that could console him was petting or scritching him, which is absolutely impossible to do while sleeping. R and I were up until 3am or so keeping our massive baby from crying.

After the first night, his recovery has gone very well. He moves a little less than normal, by that I mean he gets up about four or five times a day. I built a handicapped-dog-accessible ramp for him, that lets him get in and out of the house easily for bathroom breaks, and we’ve temporarily moved our bedroom downstairs to the living room so we can keep him company overnight, as he can’t navigate the stairs.
All in all, I think this’ll be great for him, and I can’t wait to have a happy and peppy Bucket again in a month or so. I’ll keep you updated.
