Sorry for the lapse…
So, we haven’t written for a bit, I’ll try and do some pertinent things quickly. The fire is out, but even with rain the past few days, still incredibly dry. Rachel and Brennan’s work are both going well, and Montana continues to be a great place to explore, and fish… and fish.
For those of you that are checking back regularly and being disappointed by the lack of updates. I’ll point out again the form in the top right corner of the page, where you can sign up and notified of any updates, thereby saving you time and disappointment.
Rather than do things sequentially, as usual, we’ll assume the prints have been shuffled.
Bucket says hello from Hebgen Lake.
Campfire with friends. (Clockwise from bottom left) ME!!!, James, Hanzi, Moira, Sam, Tara, Jed, Casey and David — Mostly Rachels co-workers.
Speaking of fires, this is Mickey’s Truck, it caught fire with clients in it, and a drift boat on the back. Once it caught fire, it didn’t go out until it was really, really burnt. Usually this wouldn’t be a big problem for the Fire Department usually, but another fire had just started in the National Forest. That one got big quick.
Domino Points “Hawaiian Mikes” Trout
The end of the salmonfly hatch.
More from Hebgen. Gus demands more attention.
A razorback stuck in the mouth of a nineteen inch Brown Trout.
She’s a Razorback, Razorback on the floor
And she’s Dancing like she’s never danced before.
-Official Razorback Theme Song by Mike Loebl
Have I mentioned these salmonfly things yet? Here’s a twenty two inch Brown Trout that ate the aforementioned Razorback. I can now die a happy, complete man. Until the salmonflies come back.
Gus tends to suffer from separation anxiety. He especially doesn’t like it when Brennan or Rachel are out in the middle of a lake.
Stop taking my damn picture. Can’t you see how far away Brennan is?
More of the Same Campfire. El is on the left. James, who brought us a nice big Lake Trout when Greg & Steph were here is in the middle. Hanzi, a Michigander, and fellow fisher, is on the right.
All but * work with Rachel at Madison River Outfitters — (from left) Jed, David, Destiny, Rachel, Terah* and Casey
With the right lens and contrast, Hebgen Lake can easily turn into a Jefferson Airplane cover.
This however, is a failed attempt to be faithful to coloring of Golden Trout. I hiked into a lake with Hanzi, Casey and a friend Scott to catch these smallish, skittish fish. There aren’t a ton of them around, and are therefore, for some uncertain reason, incredibly exciting to fish to. When you take them out of the water, the edges of their gill plates start a swash of bright blood red that continues down their entire body. It’s almost scary, it looks like you’ve somehow managed to make this small, rare fish bleed all over itself.
This is the sunset on the Fourth of July. With fire going, no fireworks. Rachel got out early, because it was HOT, and it was, HOT. Brennan was out fishing a small stream in the northwest corner of The Park. Maybe the best shot of West Yellowstone we’ve given you. We mean to remedy that, but we’re not quite there yet.
So it’s been a while since we’ve had and Us Two picture, so here’s one from tonight, we hiked with the dogs, we fished a pretty neat place on the Madison that we’d never fished before. Now I’m writing this, and Rachel is finish up some food to take over to Potluck, in honor of our friend Hanzi’s return to Michigan.
